Getting Around Toulouse

Toulouse, France, is seen as an important city in the south of the country. It is a hub of activity for the region. As such, there are many transportation options for tourists who want to visit Toulouse, and many modes of getting to the city.

A popular method of traveling to Toulouse is via air. The Toulouse-Blagnac International Airport serves the area and is only a twenty minute ride away from the heart of the city. Several airlines based in Western Europe fly in, including Air France, British Airways, Aer Lingus, KLM, Iberia, Alitalia, and Lufthansa. It is likely that if you are coming from overseas you will be able to catch one of these flights, though they will probably make a stop in a larger city before reaching Toulouse. There are also several budget airline options flying out of the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Ireland, and Germany for travelers to choose from. From this airport, visitors can take the shuttle to the middle of town. These shuttles run in increments of twenty minutes.

Alternatively, visitors could fly into the Carcassone Salvaza Airport, which is less than an hour away from the center of Toulouse. RyanAir, which serves many of Europe's smaller airport hubs, serves this airport. Flights are available from Dublin, London, Liverpool, and Brussels. The train operates from this airport and is less than an hour long ride to Toulouse.

For those who are already on the European continent and want to travel by land, there are other choices. It is possible to take a bus to Toulouse. Eurolines runs the bus system that serves Toulouse. From Madrid, a trip to Toulouse would only be five hours. Once in Toulouse, the bus stops at the Gare Routiere station on Pierre Semard.

Another option is to take the train to the city. The train is operated by the Societe National des Chemins de Fer. This is an easy and convenient way to get to many places in Europe, and is very popular among Europeans. The train to Toulouse can be boarded at Bourdeaux, Montpelier, and Narbonne, among other locations. Once in Toulouse, the train will stop at Gare Matabiau on Pierre Semard Boulevard.
